Introduction to data communication :

Model of communication, data communications and networking protocols and protocol architecture, standards.

 

Data communication :

Data communication interface : Asynchronous and synchronous transmission, line configuration, interfacing. data link control  : Flow control, error detection, error control, HDLC and other data link control protocols. multiplexing : FDM, synchronous TDM, statistical TDM.

 

Wide area networks :

Circuit switching : switched networks, circuit - switching networks, switching concepts, routing and control signaling. packet switching : packet switching principles, routing and congestion control, X.25.

 

Frame Relay : Protocol architecture, call control, user data transfer, network function, congestion control.

 

Asynchronous Transfer mode : ATM protocol architecture, logical connection, ATM cells and transmission.

 

Local area networks :

LAN technology : LAN architecture, Bus\Tree, ring, star and wireless LANs.

LAN Systems : Ethernet, fast Ethernet, token ring, FDDI, wireless LANs.

 

Communication architecture and protocols :

Protocols  and architecture : OSI, TCP/IP

Internetworking : Principles of internetworking, connectionless internetworking, internet protocol.

Transport protocols : Transport services, protocol mechanisms, TCP, UDP. ISDN : Overview of ISDN, ISDN channels, user access, ISDN protocols, broadband ISDN.
