1.    Introduction : 

       Application of Power Electronics, Power semiconductor Devices, Control Characteristics of power devices, Types of Power Electronics Circuits, Design of power electronic equipments.
2.    Power Semiconductor Diodes : 

       Diode Characteristics, Reverse Recovery characteristics, Types of power diodes, Effect of forward & reverse recovery time, Series & parallel connected diodes.
3.    Diode Circuits & Rectifiers : 

       Performance parameters, Single phase full wave rectifiers with R & RL loads, Freewheeling diodes, Multiphase Star rectifiers, three-phase bridge rectifier.
4.    Thyristors : 

       Thyristor characteristics, Two transistor model of thyristor, Thyristor turn-on, di/dt & dv/dt protection, Types of thyristor, Series & parallel operation of thyristors, Thyristor firing circuits, Unijunction transistor (UJT).
5.    Controlled Rectifiers : 

       Principles of phase control converter operation, Single phase semi, full, Dual and Series converters, three phase half wave, semi, full and dual converters.
6.    AC Voltage Controllers : 

       Principles of On/ OFF control, Principles of phase control, Single phase controllers with R, RL loads, Three phase half & full wave controllers, Cycloconverters.
7.    Thyristor Commutation Techniques : 

       Natural & Forced commutation Techniques.
8.    Power Transistors : 

       Bipolar Junction Transistors, Power MOSFETs, SITs, IGBTs, Series & parallel operation, di/dt & dv/dt limitations, Isolation of Gate & base drives.
9.    DC Choppers : 

       Step- up & Step-down choppers, Performance parameters, Chopper Classifications, Switching Mode Regulators, Design of Inductor, Capacitor for Buck Converter.
10.  PWM Inverters : 

       Principle of operation, performance parameter, single phase bridge inverters, three phase inverters, Voltage control of single phase & three phase inverters, Harmonic reductions.
11.  Power Supplies : 

       DC power supplies, UPS, Design of transformers.
12.  DC Drives : 

       Basic characteristics of DC Motors, Operating Modes, Single phase, three phase & chopper drives, Close loop control of DC Drives.
13.  AC Drives : 

       Induction Motor Drives, Synchronous Motor Drives.
14.  Protection of Devices & Circuits : 

       Cooling & Heat sinks, Snubber circuits, Reverse Recovery Transients.
